West Jakarta assault suspect claims memory loss due to alcohol
The assault suspect in the Taman Daan Mogot Raya area of Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, claims not to remember the violent incident during police interrogation. ‘During our questioning of the suspect, he stated he has no recollection of the event due to alcohol consumption,’ said AKP Alexander Tengbunan, the Reskrim Unit Head of Grogol Petamburan Police Station, at the station on Monday. Alexander explained the assault occurred in the early hours of Friday, 29 May. The incident began when the suspect and victim were drinking alcohol together at a cafe. However, during the gathering, they allegedly got into an argument. What started as a verbal dispute escalated into physical assault. ‘The victim was drinking alcohol initially. However, likely under the influence, the argument inside the store escalated, leading to the suspect striking the victim outside the liquor store,’ Alexander said. As a result of the assault, the victim suffered severe injuries, including a broken nose, and was rushed to hospital. ‘We have received reports that the victim’s nose is broken, but we are still investigating the matter. We will confirm the condition based on medical examination reports and official statements from doctors,’ Alexander added. Police acted swiftly after receiving the incident report. The suspect was arrested in Tanjung Duren Utara, Grogol Petamburan, shortly after the event. ‘We immediately arrested the suspect upon receiving the report. Thanks to the prompt response from Grogol Petamburan Police Station, the suspect was quickly arrested,’ he said. The suspect, identified as FDC, now faces legal consequences. He is charged under Article 466(2) of the New Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023), which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.
