West Jakarta Administration Urges Demolition of Illegal Structures Blocking Drainage in Tambora

The West Jakarta City Administration has urged owners of dozens of illegal buildings and business premises situated atop the drainage channels in Jalan Duri Baru, Jembatan Besi, Tambora, to carry out voluntary demolition. The presence of these structures is reported to disturb public order and complicate the cleaning of the drainage system.

“In addition to regional urban planning, this is also for the maintenance of the channels to ensure they are easy to service and clean,” stated the Tambora District Head, Pangestu Aji, when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, there are approximately 45 buildings and business premises standing over a drainage channel that is about two metres wide and extends 400 metres in length. The local sub-district authorities have already issued a second warning letter (SP II) to the owners.

“At this stage, the second warning has been issued. Fortunately, some have already begun to gradually dismantle these illegal structures independently,” said Aji.

He added that the demolition activity is part of the enforcement of Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 concerning public order, as part of regional and environmental planning.

Building owners have been given a period of 3x24 hours, effective from 14 to 17 September 2026. “If they fail to comply or follow the instructions, enforcement actions will be taken in accordance with the applicable regulations,” Aji emphasised.
