West Jakarta Administration to Demolish Bamboo Bridge in Tegal Alur
The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) will finally demolish the wooden bridge in Tegal Alur Village, Kalideres District, so that the construction of a new semi-permanent bridge can commence immediately.
The Mayor of West Jakarta, Iin Mutmainah, stated that the demolition process involves the Kalideres District Government, Tegal Alur Village officials, the Kalideres District Water Resources Unit (Satpel SDA), the ‘three pillars’ elements, and local residents.
“Before the demolition took place, the government and relevant parties conducted thorough socialisation and reached an agreement with residents regarding the plan to replace the bridge, ensuring the entire process proceeds with community understanding and support,” Iin said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She noted that the demolition of the temporary bridge is being carried out with careful consideration for the safety and security of the primary users.
The bamboo and wooden bridge, which has long served as a connection point in the Kali Semonggol area, was deemed no longer adequate to support the daily traffic load of the residents.
PT Adhi Karya, the appointed contractor, is scheduled to begin work on the replacement bridge immediately, with a completion target of approximately two weeks.
“The hope is that residents will not have to wait too long to cross again using much safer and more comfortable facilities,” Iin added.
The replacement of the bamboo bridge, which has been the main link in the Kali Semonggol area, has received appreciation from local residents.
One resident, Yanto, mentioned that the construction of the new semi-permanent bridge is not merely a replacement infrastructure, but a solution to the concerns residents have long felt.
For years, residents have had to cross a bamboo and wooden bridge that was increasingly fragile, especially during the rainy season. Every time they crossed, there was a sense of anxiety due to the aged building materials that no longer guaranteed the safety of users.
“We are very grateful to the Mayor, Iin Mutmainnah. She has heard our grievances,” said Yanto.
The socialisation conducted prior to the demolition, along with the transparency in communicating the construction plans, was well-received by residents, allowing the process to proceed harmoniously without obstacles.
Yanto considers the plan for the semi-permanent bridge, to be executed by PT Adhi Karya within approximately two weeks, to be a very appropriate solution.
“The hope is that construction stays on schedule, so residents can immediately use a sturdier and safer bridge,” he added.
Previously, the West Jakarta City Government prepared for the construction of a temporary pedestrian bridge using wide flange (WF) steel in RT02/RW02, Tegal Alur Village, Kalideres District, West Jakarta.
