West Jakarta Administration Targets 10 Palmerah Schools as Waste Sorting Models
The West Jakarta City Government is targeting 10 primary schools in the Palmerah district to participate in the ‘Green Guardians’ programme, serving as models for waste sorting activities for other schools.
The selected schools include SDN Kemanggisan 10, SDN Palmerah 09 Pagi, SDN Palmerah 25 Pagi, SDN Palmerah 19 Pagi, SDN Jati Pulo 07 Pagi, SDN Kota Bambu 03 Pagi, SDN Palmerah 23 Pagi, SDN Palmerah 01 Pagi, SDN Jati Pulo 08 Pagi, and SDN Kemanggisan 14 Pagi.
“These schools are expected to become models for waste sorting programmes at the school level,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to her, the Green Guardians programme, initiated by the Bakti Barito Foundation, aligns with the national Adiwiyata programme, which aims to create environmentally friendly schools. “While Adiwiyata is already a flagship programme, our efforts will be more optimal when intervened through collaborations with entrepreneurs, such as Bakti Barito,” Iin noted.
She added that significant intervention is required, not only regarding standardisation from the Environmental Department but also from the Education Office. Furthermore, the administration holds high hopes that the next generation in West Jakarta can become pioneers of change.
“I hope this generation, the future ‘Golden Generation’ of 2045, emerges from West Jakarta. We all present here have a responsibility and must strengthen our cooperation,” Iin expressed.
She noted that students possess an advantage in accessing information through digital media. “Our children, though much younger than us, may have a wider digital reach because they can connect with anyone in the world very easily. Their technological generation is stronger,” she said.
“Therefore, they have the opportunity to disseminate news and information regarding waste sorting in these schools quickly and accurately. For this reason, I want school principals to provide digital literacy as wisely and effectively as possible, so they can strengthen this information across all sectors,” Iin concluded.
She added that several schools in the other seven districts of West Jakarta will also be selected as waste sorting models. “I am currently coordinating with the Sub-Department of Education regarding the schools. There is an option for 10 per cent of schools in the West Jakarta area to become models for waste sorting activities. We are still reviewing this,” Iin added.
