West Jakarta Accelerates Development of Maroedja Sport Park

Jakarta — The West Jakarta City Government, together with the Jakarta Youth and Sports Office (Dispora), is accelerating the development of Maroedja Sport Park in North Meruya Village, Kembangan District.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah stated that the development of Maroedja Sport Park is not merely a matter of aesthetics, but an urgent social need.

“The community still refers to this area as ‘Ki Amat Football Field’,” said Iin when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.

For this reason, the city is promoting the official name, Maroedja Sport Park. “This is a follow-up to the Governor’s directive to ensure facilities not completed in the first phase can be enjoyed by residents soon,” she said.

According to Iin, this meeting is a crucial step to find creative financing solutions amid budgetary constraints for the second phase of development, which is estimated to be accommodated only in 2027.

The most pressing issue is lighting. If the field is illuminated at night, young people and students will have a positive venue for sports activities.

“This is a preventive measure for us to reduce brawls and juvenile delinquency in West Jakarta,” she said.

Head of Infrastructure at Dispora DKI Jakarta, Muharram Fajar Nugraha, revealed that budgetary limitations require the government to think innovatively.

He outlined a grand vision to make Maroedja Sport Park a new “landmark” in West Jakarta through third-party collaboration schemes.

For this reason, the office is opening wide opportunities for collaborators to manage specific zones, ranging from basketball courts, MSMEs areas, to cafés.

Muharram also offered a “Naming Rights” scheme, as successfully implemented at South Jakarta’s Literacy Park. Given Maroedja Sport Park’s strategic location on the edge of a toll road, he assessed the potential commercial value of advertising is very high.

“This location has great potential for videotrons or advertising media. We are offering a mutually beneficial scheme,” he said.

Entrepreneurs could promote their businesses, while its function as public facility would be maintained without being rigid on pure project specifications, he said.
