The Regional Library of West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is striving to improve service quality to support the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation (TPBIS) programme. “Yesterday we were visited by the National Library of Indonesia’s Accreditation Assessment Team for the purpose of evaluating the regional library’s accreditation,” said Farouk Yohansyah, Head of the West Bangka Library and Archives Service, in Mentok on Thursday. Farouk explained that this activity is part of efforts to enhance the quality and standards of regional library services. This step is taken to ensure compliance with the National Library Standards (SNP) established by the National Library. The assessment process carried out by the evaluation team involved several stages, ranging from document verification, observation of facilities and infrastructure, review of library services, to interviews with library managers. The aspects assessed include six main components: library collections, facilities and infrastructure, library services, library personnel, library organisation and management, as well as a reinforcing component comprising innovation and service transformation. Currently, the West Bangka Regional Library holds a C accreditation, and to improve this rating, the agency has input accreditation document data through the National Library’s SiPapi application for reaccreditation. According to him, the library transformation carried out so far through a social inclusion approach is balanced with improvements in governance quality, services, collections, human resources, and the utilisation of information technology. The agency is committed to making the West Bangka Regional Library a modern, inclusive, and adaptive community learning centre in line with current developments. “After verification, the West Bangka Regional Library received a recommended score of 84.86 and is highly likely to obtain B accreditation status. This result motivates us to continue improving service quality for the community,” he said. Eka Octawianto, Head of the Library Development Division at the West Bangka Library and Archives Service, stated that various preparations had been optimally carried out to face the accreditation process. “This accreditation is part of our efforts to ensure that all aspects of library operations comply with national library standards,” he said. According to him, the most important aspect of accreditation is how to realise a library that continues to transform and deliver quality services that are easily accessible and provide tangible benefits to the community. The National Library Assessment Team directly inspected various facilities, including the general service room, children’s reading room, audio-visual room, reference service room, ancient manuscript room, information technology services, and various social inclusion-based service innovations. One of the accreditation assessors, Syarifah Nurhidayah, said this activity constitutes an evaluation because accreditation is not merely about obtaining a certificate but about evaluating progress towards excellent service. “We encourage libraries to continuously improve literacy services,” she said.
