West Bandung Manpower Office Investigates Alleged Stranded Indonesian Migrant Worker in Egypt
Bandung Barat (ANTARA) - The Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) of West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, is investigating a report that an Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) from Cililin District is suspected to be facing difficulties returning home from Egypt.
Dewi Andani, Head of the Training, Productivity, Manpower Placement and Transmigration Division (P3TKT) at Disnakertrans KBB, said in Bandung Barat on Thursday that officials had visited the family of Oneng Nurbayanti (51) to conduct an assessment and gather initial information.
“We have followed up on the information regarding Oneng Nurbayanti by making a direct visit to her family. The visit was carried out to obtain a complete account, verify her identity, and collect supporting documents,” she said.
According to Dewi, the initial examination showed that Oneng’s name had not been found in the migrant worker registration system at Disnakertrans KBB, as she was estimated to have departed around 2001.
“Even though she is not recorded in the system, the family’s complaint is still being served and followed up. The absence of data does not mean the regional government is ignoring the condition of the person concerned,” said Dewi.
Disnakertrans KBB will coordinate the assessment results with the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Centre (BP3MI) of West Java, the Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She said the government’s priorities are to confirm the identity, whereabouts and safety of the worker, her health condition and document status, as well as to ensure that the wish to return home genuinely comes from the person concerned, and communication with the family is ongoing.
