West Bandung Education Office Warns Public Against Seat-Buying Scams in New Student Admissions
The Education Office (Disdik) of West Bandung Regency (KBB) has taken mitigation steps to anticipate the practice of buying and selling seats in the registration for the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 academic year. The student admissions process is claimed to be transparent.
“To anticipate fraud, an integrity pact was signed last year between the Regent of West Bandung and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). The pact states that SPMB must be clean from corruption and nepotism, and will be implemented accountably so that there are no more practices of entrusting students,” said Acting Head of the West Bandung Education Office, Edy Syafrudin, when confirmed on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
Registration for SPMB at state primary (SD) and junior secondary (SMP) schools in West Bandung is conducted entirely online. For the primary level, registration runs from 19 June to 3 July 2026. For the junior secondary level, the domicile pathway is open from 19 to 25 June 2026, while the achievement, affirmation, and mutation pathways are open from 29 June to 3 July 2026.
Edy stated that his office has also carried out public awareness campaigns to warn people not to be tempted by individuals promising to smooth the way into state schools in this year’s SPMB. “The public is also urged not to trust any party claiming to represent the school or the education office, or anyone promising to help students pass. The entire selection process is conducted based on the system within the application,” he stressed.
He explained that for state primary school capacity, his office has prepared approximately 31,000 seats spread across 701 schools in all sub-districts. Meanwhile, for the state junior secondary level, the capacity is around 17,000 seats spread across 67 schools. “For SD, the quota is about 31,000 students, while for SMP it is 17,132 students. There are 701 state primary schools and 67 state junior secondary schools,” he said.
