West Aceh Regency Government: Disaster Survivors Now Occupying Temporary Shelters

Meulaboh (ANTARA) - The West Aceh Regency Government has confirmed that dozens of disaster survivors in the Pante Ceureumen sub-district are now occupying 12 temporary shelters (huntara) previously built by the government through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

“Thank God, all the temporary shelters have been occupied and are being used by the community affected by the natural disaster,” said the Regent of West Aceh, Tarmizi, in Meulaboh, Friday.

The temporary shelters are located in two locations, namely Jambak Village and Lawet Village, Pante Ceureumen sub-district, West Aceh Regency, which is about 60 kilometres east of Meulaboh, the local regency capital.

Tarmizi said the local government is currently continuing to monitor the conditions of the flood survivors who are now living in the temporary shelters.

The West Aceh Regency Government has also ensured that there should be no leaking roofs to maintain the comfort of residents while they are in the temporary shelters, while waiting for the completion of the construction of permanent housing, which will be carried out by the BNPB later.

In response to residents who had previously built self-sufficient kitchens with whatever materials they could find, the government has instructed the distribution of new corrugated iron sheets for all residents’ kitchens.
