West Aceh firefighters battle dozens of hectares of forest and land fires

West Aceh Police Force personnel are conducting firefighting and cooling operations to tackle forest and land fires (karhutla) in the peatland area of Kuta Padang Village, Bubon District, West Aceh, on Monday, 1 June 2026. Despite ongoing awareness campaigns and prohibitions against burning for land clearing by the police, irresponsible individuals continue to engage in such activities. Data from the BPBD West Aceh Disaster Management Agency’s Operations and Control Centre (Pusdalops PB) shows the fires have affected dozens of hectares across Bubon and Johan Pahlawan districts.
