West Aceh DPRK demands coal mines restore polluted river

Meulaboh (ANTARA) - West Aceh District Legislative Council (DPRK) member Ramli has called on four coal mining companies in the area to take responsibility for the pollution of the Krueng Tujuh River, which has been contaminated by mining activity.

“We must save the Krueng Tujuh River. The four companies are obliged to take responsibility, because their waste disposal or the impact of their activities has entered the river flow,” Ramli told reporters after attending a public hearing at the West Aceh DPRK in Meulaboh on Monday.

The public hearing forum at the West Aceh DPRK demanded accountability from the four mining companies operating around the river.

The four companies, Ramli said, are PT Mifa, PT AJB, PT IPE, and PT NCN.

Ramli said that as a form of corporate responsibility, the West Aceh DPRK is pushing for the normalisation and clean-up of the river.

The West Aceh DPRK has also scheduled a direct field inspection together with a community alliance after the deliberation of the 2026 Revised Regional Budget (APBK Perubahan), to address the environmental problems occurring along the Krueng Tujuh River in Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency.

“We have agreed with the Krueng Tujuh community alliance to go to the field. We will take this step after the revised APBK deliberation agenda is completed before the end of September,” he added.

Ramli stressed that the West Aceh DPRK will continue to oversee the environmental pollution issue in the region, so that similar problems do not recur in the future.
