Welcoming Ramadan, House Speaker Puan Calls for Compassion and Brotherhood
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has extended her greetings to mark the arrival of Ramadan 1447 H, calling on all Muslims to foster compassion and a spirit of brotherhood during the holy month.
“Ramadan is a time to cleanse the soul, strengthen faith, and cultivate compassion and brotherhood,” Puan said in a written statement on Wednesday (18/2/2026).
Puan described the month of Ramadan as an opportune moment to nurture empathy towards others, urging all Muslims to come together in sharing happiness with those in need.
“May every act of worship we undertake become a path towards becoming more patient, more caring, and more devout individuals,” said the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
According to Puan, the fasting month is not merely about abstaining from thirst and hunger. She views Ramadan as a moment for Muslims to express gratitude for all the blessings bestowed by Allah SWT.
“In humility and sincerity, let us navigate the month of Ramadan with faith and a sincere heart,” Puan said.
Puan expressed her hope that all Indonesians would continue to nurture a spirit of togetherness during Ramadan. She noted that this year’s Ramadan coincides closely with Lunar New Year, the pre-Easter period for Christians, and the Nyepi Day of Silence falling near the end of Ramadan.
“May the proximity of these various religious occasions further strengthen togetherness among people of different faiths,” Puan added.
Puan also expressed her hope that the month of Ramadan would bring mercy and forgiveness for all Muslims.
“May we be granted health, strength, and ease in carrying out our fasting worship until we meet Eid al-Fitr,” said the granddaughter of Indonesia’s founding father Sukarno.
“In this holy month, may all our efforts and hard work be blessed by Allah. Marhaban ya Ramadan 1447 H! Wishing everyone a blessed fasting month,” she concluded.
