Aceh — Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, students from the Police Science College (Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kepolisian/STIK), Class 83/Widya Parama Satwika (WPS), have demonstrated genuine concern for disaster-affected communities in Aceh.

A total of 70 cattle were distributed to support the observance of the meugang tradition across several affected areas.

The aid was handed over in a symbolic ceremony at Gampong Blang, Langsa Kota, Aceh, on Monday morning. The poignant occasion was attended by local government representatives, community leaders and disaster-affected residents.

The cattle will subsequently be distributed to several affected villages so that residents can continue to observe meugang — a generations-old cultural tradition that forms an important part of Acehnese life in the lead-up to Ramadan.

STIK Chairman Inspector General of Police Eko Rudi Sudarto affirmed that the aid represents the implementation of humanitarian values consistently instilled in the institution’s students.

“This donation is a form of our concern for our brothers and sisters in Aceh who are facing difficult times in the aftermath of disaster. In this blessed month of Ramadan, we must be present to ease their burden,” he said on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

He added that the social initiative is in line with the moral message he frequently conveys to aspiring police officers.

“I always remind our students to use both logic and compassion in carrying out their duties among the community. Logic guides us to act appropriately, whilst compassion enables us to understand the suffering of others. These two things must go hand in hand so that we become police officers who are not only professional but also humane,” he said.

STIK students present at the location said they were moved to help after witnessing the conditions of communities still struggling to recover from disaster. The Keuchik (Village Head) of Gampong Blang, Junaidi, expressed his appreciation for the assistance.

“This aid is extremely meaningful for us as we struggle to recover from disaster. They have not only provided material assistance but also given us hope and encouragement,” Junaidi said.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Salmah (52), a disaster-affected resident.

“Thank God, we can still experience the meugang tradition this year thanks to the assistance from STIK students. May God repay all their kindness,” Salmah said.
