Welcoming Ramadan 1447H: Worshippers Fill Istiqlal Mosque for First Tarawih Prayers
Muslims filled Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah by performing the first tarawih prayers on Wednesday (18 February).
The inaugural tarawih sermon was delivered by the Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque and Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, who spoke on the theme of "Green Ramadan." The theme calls for a return to the essence of religion as a gentle and educative teaching, whilst encouraging the creation of harmonious relations between humanity and the universe.
