Welcoming Independence Day, Indonesian Consulate in Penang Extends Compassion to Citizens

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Penang conducted a goodwill visit to Indonesian citizens (WNI) at the Jawi Immigration Detention Depot in Penang to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The activity took place on Tuesday (21/7), led by the Indonesian Consul General in Penang, Wanton Saragih, as a manifestation of the state’s care and presence for every Indonesian citizen abroad. Currently, 89 Indonesian citizens are detained at the Jawi Immigration Detention Depot, the majority of whom are facing immigration issues. On this occasion, KJRI Penang provided a small amount of financial assistance to help with needs such as communication with families and daily necessities while in detention. Additionally, KJRI Penang provided the issuance of Travel Documents in Lieu of Passports (SPLP) for 40 Indonesian citizens, enabling their repatriation to Indonesia to be carried out promptly. Through the ‘Tali Kasih’ (Bond of Compassion) activity, KJRI Penang affirmed its commitment to continuously provide protection, services, and assistance to all Indonesian citizens within its working area, while bringing the spirit of independence through concrete actions that offer hope and care.
