Welcoming Eid al-Fitr 2026, President Distributes Meugang Beef to Aceh
Communities in Aceh affected by the Sumatra floods are assured of being able to carry out the meugang tradition to welcome Eid al-Fitr 2026, following President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to distribute beef assistance.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Kasatgas PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian. Meugang is a culture of the Acehnese people with strong social values, namely the slaughtering of cattle or buffalo, processing and enjoying it together with family or relatives, and sharing with the poor.
The aspiration arose because the community wanted to continue the distinctive Acehnese tradition even in the post-disaster condition. The government responded quickly to the request as a form of the state’s presence among the people.
“The funds (for the assistance) have been transferred to the districts/cities in Aceh Province for the payment of meugang cattle,” Tito said in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3).
Previously, the President through the Minister of Home Affairs had disbursed Rp72.72 billion for the purchase of meugang cattle at the beginning of Ramadan. The assistance aims to allow the community to still feel the atmosphere of welcoming the holy month with full togetherness.
Based on the data received, the total budget disbursed reached Rp72.75 billion for 1,455 affected villages spread across 19 districts/cities. Each village receives funds of Rp50 million. The funds are channelled directly to the Regional General Cash Account (RKUD) through Bank Aceh Syariah.
