Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta City Government is beautifying the area beneath the flyover in the Ciracas district with murals and sports facilities to welcome the 499th anniversary of DKI Jakarta. “We are now focusing on painting and murals. The theme is about sports, skateboarding, and welcoming DKI Jakarta’s anniversary towards five centuries of Jakarta,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin in Jakarta on Thursday. Susukan Ward Head Puja Akbar Sahroni stated that the area, previously looking drab, is now being filled with colourful murals themed around sports and the spirit towards five centuries of Jakarta. The Susukan Ward Government together with Ciracas Sub-District is accelerating the arrangement of the area as a public sports arena consisting of a boxing facility and skatepark. The location is planned to be inaugurated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta on 12 May. Puja mentioned that the current work is focused on painting and creating murals to beautify the face of the flyover underpass area. According to him, the arrangement of the area began last week through cleaning and tidying activities. The entire process is carried out collaboratively involving PPSU across Ciracas Sub-District as well as several related agencies. “All PPSU in Ciracas Sub-District are helping. Each has around five to ten personnel for painting and murals,” said Puja. The regional government wants to present a public space that is not only aesthetic but also productive for the community. In addition to murals, several supporting facilities are also being improved. The Road Infrastructure Sub-District Office is repairing kerbs, the Water Resources Sub-District Office is fixing toilet facilities, while the landscaping unit is helping to arrange the green areas around the location. “This is a collaboration of all elements in Ciracas Sub-District. We want this area to be truly comfortable and ready for public use,” said Puja. Currently, the work progress has reached around 40 to 45 percent. The government targets the entire arrangement to be completed at the latest on Monday (11/5) before the inauguration takes place. The presence of murals under the flyover is hoped not only to become an aesthetic element but also a symbol of changing the city’s face to be more creative and friendly to the younger generation. Moreover, the area will later become a centre for community sports activities. “The hope is that this place brings positive impacts. Besides beautifying the region, hopefully it can produce great athletes from East Jakarta,” said Puja. Previously, the flyover underpass area was known as an untidy spot often used as a gathering place for socially disadvantaged individuals or a transit location for angkot drivers. Now, through the touch of murals and sports facilities, the area is gradually changing into a more lively and beneficial public space for residents.
