Moscow – Russian President Vladimir Putin received a visit from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in St. Petersburg on Monday (27/4/2026). During the occasion, Putin conveyed Russia’s support for Iran and hoped that peace would soon be realised.

“From our side, we will do everything that serves your interests and the interests of all people in this region to ensure that peace is achieved as soon as possible,” Putin told Araghchi, as reported by the Russian news agency’s website, TASS.

To Araghchi, Putin mentioned that last week he received a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

“I want to ask you to convey my most sincere thanks for this and to affirm that Russia, like Iran, intends to continue our strategic relations,” Putin said without mentioning the content of the message sent by Khamenei to him.

Meanwhile, Araghchi said he was very pleased to meet Putin. In the meeting, Araghchi also conveyed greetings entrusted by Mojtaba Khamenei and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Putin.

Araghchi revealed that relations between Russia and Iran would continue to strengthen regardless of any circumstances. “Araghchi also thanked Putin and Russia for their support of the Islamic Republic,” TASS reported.

To Putin, Araghchi conveyed that the Iranian people have successfully resisted US pressures with courage. He said Iran would remain steadfast in facing the US.

Last year, Iran signed a 20-year strategic partnership agreement with Russia. Regarding the current geopolitical situation, Russia has offered itself as a mediator to help reduce tensions in the Middle East following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran at the end of February 2026.
