Welcoming a Green Future from the Bojonggede–Sentul Corridor

As society shifts from private vehicles to mass transport, the social costs of congestion, fuel wastage, unproductive travel times, and air pollution can be significantly reduced. Bogor Regency (ANTARA) - Bogor Regency is more than just a buffer zone for Jakarta. With a population exceeding 6 million and extremely high daily mobility, this area has become one of Indonesia’s largest hubs of human movement. Every morning, thousands of residents head to Jakarta and other surrounding cities for work, school, and economic activities. Conversely, in the evenings, vehicle flows pile up returning to Bogor. This pattern places immense pressure on national roads, fuel consumption, and environmental quality. For years, transport solutions in Bogor Regency have relied heavily on road widening, junction improvements, and traffic engineering. However, the far faster growth in private vehicles has caused congestion issues to recur repeatedly. Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto recognises that these problems cannot be adequately addressed merely by adding more road space. Bogor Regency requires a modern, integrated mass transport system capable of reducing public dependence on private vehicles. This vision is beginning to materialise through the launch of the KaBogor Electric Bus, an electricity-based mass transport service currently being trialled on the Bojonggede–Sentul corridor. Four electric bus fleets have begun operations and are being provided free to the public for three months. The launch coincided with the Car Free Day event on Jalan Tegar Beriman in Cibinong, symbolising the start of a new direction in environmentally friendly transport in Bogor Regency. The Bojonggede corridor was chosen for good reason. Bojonggede Station serves around 50,000 KRL passengers daily, making it one of the largest mobility points in the Bogor region. Until now, thousands of passengers alighting from trains have relied on private vehicles, motorbike taxis, or non-integrated transport to continue their journeys to Cibinong, Sentul, or other economic centres. The KaBogor Bus is expected to address this issue. With a route connecting Bojonggede to Sentul City, including stops at the AEON area and integrated halts with TransJakarta services in Sentul, the public gains a more efficient travel alternative. The goal is simple yet strategic: passengers alighting at the station no longer need to bring private vehicles for onward journeys. When comfortable and scheduled public transport options are available, the road burden can gradually decrease. Moreover, if this system operates permanently through a Buy The Service (BTS) scheme, Bogor Regency has the potential to become the first regency in Indonesia to introduce electric bus-based mass public transport under that model. It is not merely a transport project, but a policy leap that could serve as a national model for other metropolitan buffer regions. Buy The Service
