Welcome oh Ramadhan

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

Welcome oh Ramadhan

the month of wisdom

in which Moslems

multiply their devotional actions,

exercise the virtue of self-restraint

enduring hunger and thirst

controlling their temper, amorousness,

putting at bay all other passions

From dawn to sunset

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

In the Koran it was revealed by God Almighty

And that historical moment is called Lailatul Qadr

the Night of Power.

Compared to 1,000 other months,

it is still much nobler.

In this month too the spectacular Isra' and Mi'raj,

or the Prophet's Nocturnal Journey

and Ascension to the Seventh Heaven,

took place.

And during Ramadhan evenings

Moslems flock to mosques

to perform tarawih prayers,

attending lectures,

studying religious teachings

and reading the Holy Scripture.

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

It is also the month of joy

the breaking of the fast meal

with all the delicious dishes to enjoy

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

Accept my night and day prayers

Oh Allah, oh My Lord

Allow me to learn Your doctrine of Oneness

so that I see the straight path,

The Sirathal Mustaqim

that you have spread out before us.

And accept my ritual prostrations

in the early morning

afternoon and late afternoon

after sunset and during evening hours

Make me never forget

my religious obligations

Oh Allah, oh My Lord

Turn all the days of our lives

into moments of Your attention

so that we can train ourselves

to understand Your revelations

and to cross the ocean of wisdom

which is full of learnedness and good sense

Oh Allah, oh My Lord

At the gate of Your blessing

We prostrate our complete self

in prayer verses

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

The month of hope

May God help us

conquer our inner storms

and purify our very souls
