JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Plans to implement work from home (WFH) for one day per week in Jakarta remain at a crossroads. Amid hopes for efficiency and the need to maintain the city’s rhythm, the debate over the designated day has yet to reach a consensus. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has emphasised that WFH will not be applied on Wednesdays. For the DKI Provincial Government, that day already holds its own significance through the “Wednesday Public Transport” programme. “In principle, as I have stated, the DKI Jakarta Government will follow the directives and official regulations issued by the central government. Regarding the day, it will certainly not be Wednesday,” Pramono said at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday (30/3/2026). “Why not Wednesday? Because Wednesday is public transport day, so if it is later decided by the central government, I will decide on a day other than Wednesday. Wednesday remains for public transport,” Pramono added. Under that programme, civil servants (ASN) and individual service providers (PJLP) are required to use public transport for commuting to and from work, as well as for official duties. At the national level, the one-day-per-week WFH policy is said to be announced soon. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto assured that a decision will be taken shortly. “It will definitely be set this month,” Airlangga said after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta. Meanwhile, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi emphasised that the policy does not apply to all sectors. “For example, the service, industrial, and trade sectors will certainly not be part of that policy,” Prasetyo stated. He explained that the policy is part of efforts to achieve efficiency, including savings in energy and fuel oil (BBM), amid global dynamics. Amid the anticipation, proposals regarding the implementation day continue to emerge. Member of DPR RI Commission II Ahmad Irawan has suggested implementing WFH on Wednesdays.
