Jakarta (ANTARA) - A number of criminal and security-related incidents occurred in Jakarta over the past week, ranging from the revocation of operating licences for two entertainment venues in West Jakarta following drug-related cases, to the police manhunt for a perpetrator who snatched the mobile phone of an Italian national at Bundaran HI.
DKI Jakarta Revokes Licences of Two West Jakarta Entertainment Venues Due to Drug Cases
The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Department of Tourism and Creative Economy, has revoked the operating licences of two entertainment venues in West Jakarta. This decisive action follows a drug abuse incident that occurred on Saturday (9/5). The Head of the Jakarta Department of Tourism and Creative Economy, Andhika Permata, stated that the provincial government will not tolerate tourism businesses proven to be involved in, permitting, or serving as locations for illegal activities.
Police Hunt Perpetrator of Mugging of Italian National at Bundaran HI
Central Jakarta Metro Police are currently hunting the perpetrator who snatched the mobile phone of an Italian national in the Bunderek HI area. “The Criminal Investigation Unit of the local police, assisted by the Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, is still working to identify the perpetrator,” said the Chief of Menteng Metro Police, AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, to journalists in Jakarta on Friday. He added that the victim has provided a statement and officers are attempting to track down the perpetrator, whose actions were captured on CCTV.
Etomidate Raw Materials Enter Indonesia via Expedition from China
The Head of the Narcotics Criminal Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Ari Galang Saputro, stated that raw materials for the drug etomidate entered Indonesia via an expedition service from China, ordered by a Chinese national with the initials CH (51). “Investigations show that the etomidate raw materials were sent to Indonesia through an expedition delivery service from China,” Ari said in Jakarta on Thursday. The raw materials were disguised in packaging for kitchen spices, specifically turmeric and coriander powder, to bypass customs inspections.
Mercury Smuggled to the Philippines Sourced from Gunung Botak, Maluku
Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered that mercury intended for smuggling to the Philippines is suspected to originate from illegal gold mines in the Gunung Botak area, Buru Island, Maluku. The Head of Sub-directorate IV of the Special Crimes Unit of Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Anton Hermawan, noted that the Gunung Botak area is a known site for illegal gold mining. “Gunung Botak in Maluku is where most of it comes from. It is related to gold mining. If you search Google for ‘largest illegal gold mine’, it will certainly point to the Gunung Botak area,” Anton said during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Police Investigate Man Allegedly Thrown from Second Floor in West Jakarta
Metro Jaya Regional Police are investigating an incident where a man was allegedly thrown from the second floor of Grogol Market, West Jakarta, on 10 May 2026, at approximately 02:00 WIB. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, stated on Saturday that the victim, identified by the initials DM, is a resident of Palmerah, West Jakarta. “Regarding the information that the victim was thrown from the second floor, this is still under investigation,” said Budi. However, he confirmed that the victim is suspected to have been a victim of mob violence within the jurisdiction of the Grogol Petamburan Police.
