A pile of rubbish located opposite the east side of Juanda Station has overflowed onto the edge of Jalan Ir Haji Juanda I, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Friday (20/3/2026).

The rubbish pile is clearly visible from the ground floor area inside Juanda Station.

From inside the station, a musty and sour smell emanating from the rubbish pile can be detected.

When approached, the unpleasant aroma becomes even more evident.

Based on observations by Kompas.com, the rubbish has piled up to a height of 30 centimetres (cm).

The majority of the rubbish consists of food scraps, fast-food packaging, beverage containers, snack wrappers, egg storage paper, instant noodle wrappers, and large cartons of liquid milk.

Dozens of large black plastic rubbish bags are also visible, piled up across nearly all sides of the mound.

Approximately three metres from the piled-up rubbish location, various drink shops, fast-food outlets, and cafes line up in the Raffles Square shopping complex.

One security officer at the shopping complex, Bejo (50), stated that the rubbish pile has not been collected by the collection truck for a week.

He heard information that there are still issues at the Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) Bantar Gebang in Bekasi.

“Why can it pile up like this? Because rubbish from restaurants, supermarkets, and cafes arrives every day. Normally it’s collected immediately, but not this time,” he added.

On the other hand, according to him, waste pickers are also sifting through the rubbish pile to sort plastic bottles and glass bottles.

Bejo suspects that the activities of the waste pickers have also contributed to the rubbish overflowing onto the roadside.
