Week long anti-violence drive

BANDUNG (JP): Six non-governmental organizations based in Bandung are jointly holding a week-long anti-violence campaign to commemorate World Women's Day starting on Thursday.

The event, coordinated by the Bandung Institute of Women (IP- Bandung), will end on World Women's Day, March 8.

Valent, IP-Bandung chairperson, said that the theme of the campaign was "Because We are All Human Beings".

The campaign started on Thursday with talk shows in four private radio stations in Bandung and the distribution of non- violence stickers, leaflets and purple-white ribbons to motorists and anyone else who passed Jl. Dago, Jl. Merdeka, the Gazibu and the public square, she said.

"The campaign will end with a cultural show and prayer for peace at the Saparua Sports Hall on March 8."

Repeating the "Women Make News 2001" call from UNESCO and the International Federation of Journalism, Valent wanted all Bandung-based mass media to let their female staffers be in charge of editorial affairs for just one week from March 5 to March 11. (25/sur)
