Week in Review: Yaqut Detained by KPK and Attack on KontraS Activist

A number of significant legal developments have been reported by ANTARA news agency over the past week.

The Attorney General’s Office conducted a search of the Indonesian Ombudsman’s office in relation to an alleged obstruction of investigation and prosecution case involving cooking oil that implicates three corporations.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has designated the Regent of Rejang Lebong Muhammad Fikri Thobari and four others as suspects in an alleged corruption case.

The KPK arrested the Regent of Cilacap Syamsul Auliya Rachman in the ninth arrest operation of 2026, and the third such operation during the month of Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.

Former Religious Affairs Minister and hajj quota case suspect Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has been formally detained by the Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK).

Commission III of the DPR chair Habiburokhman has strongly condemned the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus and has pledged to monitor the case closely. KontraS, formally known as the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence, is a prominent human rights organisation.
