Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police has opened mobile driving licence (SIM) services at five locations in Jakarta on Wednesday for the public wishing to extend the validity of this legal requirement for driving. Quoting the official X account @tmcpoldametro, the service will operate from 08:00 to 14:00 WIB at the following locations: East Jakarta: Lobby in front of Grand Cakung Mall; North Jakarta: Main lobby of LTC Glodok; South Jakarta: Parking area next to Trilogi University; West Jakarta: South lobby of Ciputra Mall; Central Jakarta: Parking area of the Lapangan Banteng Post Office. The mobile SIM kiosks only serve extensions for SIMs that are still valid for specific categories, namely SIM A and SIM C. If the SIM’s validity has expired, the owner must apply for a new SIM at the Daan Mogot SIM Police Station in West Jakarta. The validity period of SIMs is now calculated as five years from the date of issuance and no longer aligned with the owner’s date of birth. Regarding extension fees, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 76 of 2020 on Types and Tariffs for Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) applicable to the National Police, it is Rp80,000 for SIM A and Rp75,000 for SIM C. In addition to these fees, applicants must also pay other costs for psychological testing at Rp60,000 and health testing at Rp35,000. For information, drivers who cannot show a valid SIM will face sanctions under Article 288 paragraph 2 of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation, namely imprisonment for up to one month or a maximum fine of Rp250,000.
