Police in Serang say a gang of motorcycle thieves targeted hajatan events, exploiting information from a former singer to strike at gatherings. The gang, led by Jimi alias Kiming, used tips from a celebrity who previously performed at events to know where to strike. They were able to operate at hajatan venues due to lax security.

‘That is one of the methods, taking advantage of looser security,’ the police said.

Meanwhile, Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan urged hosts of hajatan to coordinate with the police if they plan entertainment to ensure security with the involvement of stakeholders and the surrounding community.

Earlier, AKBP Andri Kurniawan said the theft occurred on 12 May 2026 at around 23:30 local time in Kampung Rukem, Kecamatan Bandung, Serang Regency. The victim had just finished watching entertainment provided by residents at the hajatan.

‘The victim’s motorcycle was missing, although it had been parked near a resident’s house,’ Andri said on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

The victim reported the incident to Serang Police. Following up, officers investigated and uncovered a gang of hajatan-targeted motorcycle thieves. Initially, police arrested a man named Saedi on Wednesday (14 May 2026) around 21:00 in a roadside area in Jasinga District, Bogor Regency. Police then arrested Suherman on Thursday (14 May 2026) at his home in Mekarjaya Village, Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency.

‘Both are alleged receivers of stolen goods,’ Andri said.

The two suspects admitted they obtained the vehicle stolen from someone named Jimi alias Kiming. Police subsequently arrested Jimi alias Kiming when he was about to strike in Serang City with his girlfriend, Dian. ‘The culprits were secured at a hajatan in Nyapah Village, Walantaka District, Serang City, with his girlfriend who also took part in the theft,’ he said.

According to Andri, the offender is a repeat offender for motorcycle theft in the Banten region. In the last three months, the offender has operated at 15 locations. ‘The perpetrator has committed motorcycle theft at 15 crime scenes across Banten Province and has often targeted hajatan or entertainment venues,’ he added.
