Who says the dessert industry can only sell sweetness? A new breakthrough has begun from within an animation studio. Dessert brand Butter Baby hired a CGV fX Sudirman cinema studio in Jakarta to hold a Cinema Premiere for their original short animated film titled The Story of Butterlandia. This move reinforces Butter Baby’s position as the first character-based Global Intellectual Property (Global IP) from Indonesia that dares to break down the boundaries between the culinary world and the entertainment industry. Through the launch of this animated film, Butter Baby opens the gateway to a complete fictional universe. The audience is invited to delve into the origins of the characters, a fantasy world, and an urgent mission to collect 500 trillion tonnes of butter to save Butterlandia, their slowly dying home planet. Although carrying a grand space science fiction concept, the main foundation of these characters and this story actually grew and came to life in Jakarta. Butter Baby founders Nick Burch and Henry Burch said that this city and its community are the main fuel in weaving that fantasy dream into reality. “Butter Baby started from a simple idea: how to create something that could make people feel connected. We have known and loved Indonesia for more than 12 years, from Sumba, until finally settling and working in Jakarta for more than four years,” they said during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026). “We chose Indonesia not because of opportunity, but because we believe this is the best place to build something lasting,” they added. From there, Nick and Henry began building characters, stories, and a world that slowly developed into Butterlandia. “It is not a story we created from the outside; this was born from here, from this city, together with the community that has grown with us since day one. This animated film is our way of saying, this is the foundation. This is where it all began,” they said. Butter Baby’s development into a Global IP has been lightning fast. In less than a year, they have already integrated their three business pillars in a balanced way: the power of intellectual property (IP), a merchandise line, and a scalable store model.
