Kotabaru, Indonesia, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - The sea breeze and high waves accompanied the team from the Off-Campus Study Programme (PSDKU) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) on their journey to Pulau Kerayaan, Kotabaru. On board a wooden boat that swayed with the waves, Muhammad Fathoni and his team carried an important mission: to deliver information and the promise of higher education to the outermost island region.

The journey was not always easy. A warning about strong winds was issued, but the team continued their voyage as a demonstration of ULM’s commitment to providing inclusive and equitable higher education. Geographical challenges are part of the university’s efforts to reach students in remote areas so that they do not miss out on information and further study opportunities.

Upon arriving at Pulau Kerayaan, the team was greeted by the beauty of nature: blue seas, white sand, and the unspoiled atmosphere of the island. However, behind this beauty, access to information about higher education is still limited. At SMA Negeri 2 Pulau Kerayaan, the ULM PSDKU team conducted a socialization and promotion of the 2026/2027 New Student Admission (PMB). The students and teachers enthusiastically welcomed the team, who had travelled by land and sea from Banjarmasin to share information about study opportunities.

This activity is part of a series of PSDKU ULM promotions from 19 to 22 January 2026 in Tanah Bumbu Regency and Kotabaru, with more than 20 schools visited, including schools in island areas such as Pulau Sebuku and Pulau Kerayaan. For ULM, PSDKU is not just an academic programme, but a strategy to equalize access to higher education.

“We want students on the islands to have the same big dreams as students in the city. PSDKU is here to bridge that gap,” said Fathoni.

The journey through the sea and strong winds is a symbol of ULM’s commitment as a university that makes an impact. The presence of the PSDKU team in Pulau Kerayaan brought more than just brochures and presentations; they brought the message that higher education can be accessed by anyone, anywhere.

Under the blue sky and among the ever-moving waves, new dreams are beginning to be woven. Dreams of university life, the future, and change—which now feel closer, thanks to the commitment of Lambung Mangkurat University to provide education to the farthest corners of the country.
