Weather reaches record temperature

SEMARANG: The hottest day in 30 years was recorded in Semarang on Friday, with the temperature reaching 38.4 degrees Celsius.

The last time Semarang residents experienced hot weather was in 1973, when the temperature reached 38.7 Celsius, far from normal temperature of 25 Celsius.

Chief of Semarang Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) Widada Sulistya explained on Friday that the hot weather was caused by the position of the sun, which is closest to Semarang city in the dry season this year. -- JP
