Weather modification team starts work
JAKARTA: A weather modification team at the Agency for
Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), which is
expected to help reduce rainfall in Jakarta, started operation on
Friday.
State Minister of Research and Technology M. Hatta Radjasa
said he had ordered the team to work after hearing a weather
forecast by the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency on Thursday
that there would be heavy rainfall on Friday.
However, Hatta did not mention whether the clear weather on
Friday was the result of the work of the team, which started its
activities since early in the morning at Halim Perdanakusuma air
base in East Jakarta.
"I still cannot give any details of the work as I have not
received a report or an evaluation," he said.
BPPT expressed its readiness on Monday to help reduce the
intensity of rainfall in Jakarta because of its years of
experience in the use of the weather modification technology. --
