Weather Modification Operation Successfully Triggers Rain in Three Jambi Regions to Combat Forest Fires

The Weather Modification Operation (OMC) conducted by the Jambi Province Forest and Land Fire Task Force, alongside the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), has resulted in rainfall across three regions.

“Yes, we are conducting OMC,” stated the Deputy Commander of the Jambi Province Forest and Land Fire Task Force, Bachyuni Deliansyah, in Jambi City on Sunday.

According to Bachyuni, the OMC activities have been ongoing from 27 August until the present Sunday (30/8).

Specifically for today, the team performed one sortie involving the dispersal of salt (NaCl) in the skies of Muaro Jambi and Tanjung Jabung (Tanjab) Timur at 08:00 WIB. As a result, rain successfully fell in those two regions this afternoon.

“As long as there is potential for rain clouds, we will continue to conduct OMC, supported by the BNPB. We will conduct further OMC in the Tanjab Timur and Muaro Jambi areas tonight,” he revealed.

M.Randy Hedyansyah HB, a forecaster from the Sultan Thaha Class I Meteorological Station Jambi, explained that the rain occurring this afternoon in several areas of Jambi Province—namely Tanjung Jabung Barat, Tanjung Jabung Timur, and Muaro Jambi—was the direct result of the OMC.

Meanwhile, in other areas such as Kerinci, Bungo, Merangin, and Sarolangun, the rainfall occurred naturally without the weather modification process.

Hotspots are currently dominating Muaro Jambi Regency, with 22 hotspots recorded across the Sungai Gelam, Kumpeh, and Kumpeh Ulu districts. Additionally, Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency has 13 detected hotspots, primarily in the Muara Sabak Barat and Mendahara districts. Remaining hotspots were also identified in Tebo, Bungo, Sarolangun, and Tanjung Jabung Barat regencies.
