Jakarta – The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that weather in major Indonesian cities on Saturday will generally be dominated by light to moderate rain. BMKG forecaster Selly Brilian, speaking in an online briefing from Jakarta, reported that cities on Sumatra such as Padang, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, and Lampung are likely to experience light to moderate rain. Meanwhile Aceh and Medan are expected to be shrouded in thick clouds.

For Java, light to moderate rain is forecast for Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Semarang, however, could be hit by heavy rain with lightning, she said.

Next, for Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the forecast is for thick cloud cover throughout the day.

In Kalimantan, light to moderate rain is possible in Samarinda and Pontianak. Rain accompanied by thunder should also be watched in Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Banjarmasin.

In Sulawesi, the weather is expected to be cloudy in Manado, while light to moderate rain could lash Makassar, Kendari, and Gorontalo. Mamuju and Palu are forecast to receive heavy rain with lightning.

Finally, in the eastern part of Indonesia, the weather is generally expected to bring light to moderate rain in places such as Sorong, Ternate, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya and Merauke. Ambon, by contrast, is forecast to be heavily clouded.

She warned the public to remain vigilant for potential extreme weather that can occur at any time.

Head of BMKG Teuku Faisal Fathani stressed that weather conditions during the Eid al-Fitr mudik period still require caution, particularly in the first half of March 2026.

Overall, weather during the Idul Fitri holiday is forecast to be dominated by light to moderate rain. However, the potential for heavy rain remains to be anticipated in several regions, especially in Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and up to the Papua Highlands.

“BMKG continues to conduct ongoing analysis and monitoring of atmospheric conditions, and always communicates early weather warnings in a timely manner to support the safety of the public and activities during the Lebaran transportation period,” said Faisal.
