BMKG released its weather forecast for Friday, 22 May 2026. The atmospheric conditions in Indonesia are currently influenced by several cyclonic circulations detected over several sea areas, increasing the potential for raincloud development in various regions. The circulations are formed in the western Indian Ocean off Bengkulu, the Makassar Strait, the Maluku Sea, and the northern Pacific Ocean near Papua. These systems trigger the formation of convergence and confluence zones across multiple areas, from the western Indian Ocean off Aceh to the western coast of West Sumatra, the Flores Sea, the Maluku waters, the Halmahera Sea, and the Philippine Sea. Additionally, convergence zones are observed in the waters of Riau, Central Kalimantan, the Banda Sea, the Seram Sea, and the Halmahera Sea. This condition increases moisture supply and broadens the potential for raincloud formation with varying intensities across parts of Indonesia. BMKG warns the public to be vigilant for potential heavy to very heavy rain in the Bangka Belitung Islands, Kalimantan Barat, and Maluku. The combination of cyclonic circulations, convergence, and confluence leads to heightened atmospheric activity in several regions. This supports the growth of convective clouds with the potential to bring moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds. Areas along the convergence lines have a higher likelihood of significant weather due to high humidity and atmospheric instability.
