Weather Forecast for the Special Region of Yogyakarta Today: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Kulon Progo!

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta has released the weather forecast for the region today, Wednesday (25/2/2026). Although all areas are likely to experience widespread rainfall, the rainfall intensity in Kulon Progo is expected to be the highest among other areas.

Yogyakarta City

According to the official Instagram account of BMKG DIY, @infobmkgyia, light to moderate rainfall is expected to occur throughout Yogyakarta City, including the Malioboro area, starting in the afternoon.

Sleman

Light rainfall is also predicted to occur in most parts of Sleman, starting in the afternoon. This includes the Prambanan temple area and its surroundings. However, in the Kaliurang area and the slopes of Mount Merapi, specifically in the sub-districts of Pakem, Turi, and Cangkringan, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to occur in the evening.

Bantul

Light to moderate rainfall is predicted to occur throughout Bantul, starting in the afternoon. This includes the coastal tourist areas in Bantul, such as Parangtritis Beach.

Kulon Progo

Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to occur in most parts of Kulon Progo, starting in the afternoon. This includes the coastal tourist areas in Kulon Progo, such as Glagah Beach, and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA). In the Menoreh hills area, such as Samigaluh and Girimulyo, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to occur in the evening. Light rainfall will occur in this area starting in the afternoon.

Gunungkidul

Light rainfall is expected to occur in most parts of Gunungkidul, starting in the afternoon. However, in the coastal tourist areas in Gunungkidul, such as Indrayanti Beach, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to occur in the evening.
