Weather Forecast for May 31: Heavy Rain Expected; Areas on Alert
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that rain will dominate weather conditions across several Indonesian regions on Sunday (31 May), with varying intensity. The public is urged to be vigilant against potential extreme weather due to highly active atmospheric dynamics, particularly the influence of Tropical Cyclone Jangmi.
In its official release, BMKG reported that Tropical Cyclone Jangmi is currently located in the Philippine Sea and moving northwest. Over the next 48 to 72 hours, the system is expected to strengthen further, drawing in air masses that will form convergence zones.
These wind convergence zones stretch from the eastern Philippine waters, the Pacific Ocean north of North Maluku, to northern Papua. Additionally, cyclonic circulation has been detected in the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean east of Papua New Guinea, enhancing rain cloud development in northern and eastern Indonesia.
Due to these combined atmospheric dynamics, BMKG has issued a warning for Papua, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible. This increases the risk of hydro-meteorological disasters such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees.
BMKG advises the public to monitor the latest weather updates via the InfoBMKG app or official channels. Given the dynamic atmospheric conditions, sudden weather changes can occur at any time, especially in coastal and mountainous areas.
