The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecasted weather conditions for Eid al-Fitr 2026, predicting cloudy skies and potential heavy rainfall across several regions of Indonesia.

BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani stated that several regions should remain alert to the possibility of heavy rainfall during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday. However, weather in several provinces is expected to be dominated by cloudy conditions.

The atmospheric conditions influencing weather patterns ahead of Eid al-Fitr and the holiday period include the presence of the Asian monsoon, which brings increased water vapour. Additionally, the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), a phenomenon involving the movement of cloud and rainfall activity in tropical regions toward the east, atmospheric waves, and the potential development of tropical cyclone seeds in southern Indonesian waters are all contributing factors. Consequently, rainfall in March is expected to increase before declining.

“There is a potential for increased rainfall in the second week of March,” said Fathani.

The public has been reminded of the potential for high rainfall, particularly in West Java, Central Java, and South Sulawesi.

BMKG stated that it will update weather information to ensure smooth travel and activities for the public during the holiday and Eid al-Fitr celebration period.

BMKG Samarinda has issued an early warning for potential flooding and landslides in East Kalimantan during the 11-20 March 2026 period due to high rainfall.

Weather forecasts for specific regions on 11 March 2026 show Batam experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with temperatures ranging between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius. Central Java is forecast to experience extreme weather conditions in ten districts, with residents advised to remain alert to hydrometeorological hazards. West Nusa Tenggara’s BMKG has released weather forecasts for Wednesday, 11 March 2026, whilst Jakarta’s forecast for Tuesday, 10 March 2026 warns of light to moderate rainfall during afternoon and evening hours.
