The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued its weather forecast for Friday, 29 May 2026, across major Indonesian cities. While most regions are predicted to be cloudy, several strategic areas are advised to be cautious of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunder. BMKG forecaster Sastia, during a virtual briefing from Jakarta, reported varying conditions across Sumatra, with Medan, Padang, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, and Tanjung Pinang likely to experience light to moderate rain. In Java, Bandung and Semarang are expected to see light to moderate rain, while major cities such as Jakarta, Serang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya will remain overcast all day. For Kalimantan, Tanjung Selor and Palangka Raya face the risk of heavy rain with thunderstorms, whereas Samarinda and Pontianak may see light to moderate rain, and Banjarmasin is forecast to be cloudy. In Sulawesi, Manado is expected to experience the most extreme conditions with heavy rain and lightning, while Palu, Mamuju, Gorontalo, and Ternate will have light to moderate rain. Makassar and Kendari are predicted to have stable cloudy conditions. BMKG also reminded the public across Indonesia to stay alert to dynamic weather changes. “We urge the public to remain vigilant against potential extreme weather conditions that may occur at any time,” Sastia stated. The agency further warned of possible extreme weather across several regions from 29 May to 1 June 2026.
