Weather Forecast for 10 June 2026: BMKG Warns of Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Across North Sumatra
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is urging residents of North Sumatra to remain vigilant for the potential of moderate-intensity rain expected on Wednesday (10/6). The weather conditions are likely to be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several regions. “Rain with lightning and strong winds can occur in the eastern coastal areas, highlands, and western slopes of North Sumatra, potentially causing hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides,” said BBMKG Region I Forecaster Utami Al Khairiyah in Medan on Tuesday (9/16). Based on BMKG’s weather forecast, conditions on Wednesday morning will generally be dominated by cloud cover, with a chance of light rain in the South Nias region. Entering the afternoon, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with the potential for light to moderate rain spreading across various areas of North Sumatra. Regions forecast to experience more dominant rainfall intensity include Simalungun, Asahan, and Pematangsiantar. In the evening, cloudy weather will persist and potentially trigger light rain in a number of areas, such as Deli Serdang, North Labuhanbatu, Binjai, Medan, and Labuhanbatu. Meanwhile, in the early hours, light rain is anticipated in several regions, including Serdang Bedagai, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, Asahan, Batu Bara, Deli Serdang, Karo, Gunungsitoli, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, Nias, West Nias, South Nias, North Nias, Padang Lawas, and Sibolga. BMKG also recorded air temperatures in North Sumatra ranging between 14 and 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are expected to range from 73 to 99 per cent, with winds blowing from the south to west at speeds of around 4 to 8 kilometres per hour. Members of the public conducting outdoor activities, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, are advised to continuously monitor weather information updates to anticipate the impacts of extreme weather that can occur at any time.
