The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has released an early warning for significant weather valid for Wednesday, 1 July 2026. Based on the latest atmospheric dynamics analysis, the emergence of Tropical Cyclone Seed 96W in the West Philippine Sea is the primary trigger for the increased potential of rain cloud growth across various regions of Indonesia. The public is urged to increase preparedness, especially residents in three regions that fall under the ‘Siaga’ (Alert) category for potential heavy to very heavy rainfall, namely Aceh, Riau, and West Sulawesi. According to BMKG monitoring, Tropical Cyclone Seed 96W is currently located in the West Philippine Sea, Philippines, and is moving northwest. This system induces the formation of areas of wind convergence and deceleration in the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, the northern Makassar Strait, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and around the centre of the cyclone seed itself. Additionally, three secondary cyclonic circulations are forecast to form. These systems create extensive convergence and confluence zones stretching across the Indian Ocean west of Aceh, west of North Sumatra, and west of West Sumatra, the central Makassar Strait, and extending from Southeast Sulawesi to South Sulawesi. The massive combination of movement around the cyclone seed area and the secondary cyclonic circulation centres is capable of significantly boosting rain cloud growth along these meeting and slowing zones of wind.
