Wearing a 'tree hole bottom' suit, Gibran looks elegant at the MPR Annual Session
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka appeared elegant and authoritative in a tree hole bottom suit at the MPR Annual Session.
Fashion observer Lisa Fitria said the suit model is formal, yet simple and highly conventional in style.
“The choice of a dark blue suit also gives an impression of calm, professionalism, stability and confidence,” Lisa told ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.
“The colour is more approachable compared with the use of black overall, but it still carries the formal strength appropriate for a state position,” she added.
Lisa observed that the dark blue suit, paired with a white shirt and a light blue tie, was chosen by Gibran to create a clean and understated look.
The use of a black kopiah, similar to President Prabowo Subianto, was seen as a symbol of commitment to preserving the culture and identity of Indonesia as a religious nation, even when combined with a more modern suit.
According to her, the simplicity is interesting because Gibran did not explore many dominant traditional motifs or ornaments. Instead, he focused on creating a visual that remains centred on the figure and the state position.
“Clothing becomes a kind of uniform of leadership that shows seriousness, firmness and readiness to carry out duties. So, when viewed in the context of political fashion, an appearance like this shows that state officials’ attire does not always have to make an explicit statement through traditional motifs or colours,” she said.
She assessed that Gibran’s style of dress can be interpreted as opening space to explore Indonesian state attire so that it develops more character. For example, through the use of Nusantara textiles or wastra, whether through ties, square suit pockets, fabric details or accessory elements, without reducing protocol formality.
“In this way, we can have what I call a Modern Indonesian Statement Look. Leadership attire that is modern and global but still carries Indonesian DNA. Hopefully there will be ideas next time to create modern attire with a different look,” Lisa added.
On Friday, the MPR RI, DPR RI and DPD RI held the MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI, one of the agendas being President Prabowo Subianto’s speech for the delivery of the performance report of state institutions and the state address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
In addition to the speech, the government will also screen a video of government performance achievements.
The annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia”.
