Wealth Swept Away by Demak Flood, Only Hajj Certificate Remains
Mbah Fadholi (70) only managed to save his hajj documents when the Demak flood hit his home in RT 2 RW 5, Dusun Selondoko, Desa Trimulyo, Kecamatan Guntur, Demak Regency, due to the collapse of the Sungai Tuntang embankment on Friday (3/4).
According to a detikJateng report from the scene, Fadholi’s house is very close to the collapsed embankment, with the front of the house directly facing the breach point. Residents are working together to clean his severely damaged home, which is still filled with mud.
The wooden and plywood walls of Fadholi’s house appear to have collapsed on the right and left sides. All the contents of the house are also completely gone.
To detikJateng, Fadholi recounted that the incident happened very quickly. Just before the embankment collapsed, he ran towards the village road to save himself.
“When the villagers shouted ‘it’s collapsing, it’s collapsing’, I immediately ran there (to the village road), it collapsed so fast,” said Fadholi.
Before saving himself, Fadholi panicked and tried to secure his valuables. However, he only managed to take his hajj documents.
“I only managed to run carrying the documents for the west, for hajj,” said Fadholi.
“I’ve registered several years ago, I don’t know when I’ll depart yet, the important thing is the documents are safe,” he added.
Assets in Fadholi’s home were swept away by the flash flood. He also recounted that his son’s house, which was lost without a trace, was swept away by the flood.
“Three wardrobes all gone, the long chair in front also gone. Everything is gone. The one behind this, my son’s house is even gone,” explained Fadholi.
Nevertheless, Fadholi remains grateful for his safety. He hopes for assistance to renovate his house.
“Alhamdulillah, still safe. My hope is that there will be assistance to repair the house,” Fadholi concluded.
Embankment Collapse
Three points of the Sungai Tuntang embankment in Desa Trimulyo and Sidoharjo, Kecamatan Guntur, Demak Regency, collapsed on Friday (3/4), causing flooding in 10 villages across 4 sub-districts.
This was stated by the Head of BPBD Demak, Agus Sukiyono. According to him, although the impact is widespread, water levels tend to be decreasing.
“10 villages in four sub-districts are affected by the flood. This is receding and starting to normalise, because the water discharge from upstream has decreased,” said Agus when contacted by detikJateng on Sunday (5/4).
In detail, the affected areas are Desa Trimulyo, Sidoharjo, Turitempel, Tlogorejo, Bumiharjo in Kecamatan Guntur; Desa Sarimulyo and Solowire in Kecamatan Kebonagung; Desa Ploso and Grogol in Karangtengah; and Desa Lempuyang in Kecamatan Wonosalam.
“Village of Trimulyo has water levels of 50-70 cm, condition trending down. Ploso Village has water levels of 30-40 cm, condition trending down. Tlogorejo Village has water levels of 20-40 cm, condition trending down,” explained Agus.
“Grogol Village has water levels of 25-30 cm, and there is overflow in Turitempel Village, condition still safe,” he added.
detikJateng observations in Desa Trimulyo show that water levels on the main village road have dropped significantly. Roads that were previously flooded up to knee height in some points have receded, leaving only small puddles.
However, in residential areas, flooding is still quite deep. In RT 4 RW 4, for example, flood levels are still up to adults’ knees. Additionally, in RT 1 and 2 RW 5, flood levels in some places are still nearly chest-high.
Residents have started community work to clean houses and the environment of mud. In addition, some of them are also seen drying their stored rice paddy that got wet due to flooding.
Two excavator units have also been deployed at the collapsed embankment in Dusun Solondoko. The heavy equipment is starting to close the 30-metre-wide gaping hole.
Agus stated that the number of evacuees is nearly 3,000 people. However, according to him, they are gradually returning home.
“Evacuees: 2,867 souls. These evacuees are starting to return home, because in Trimulyo, Tlogorejo, and Sidoharjo it’s already receding. The (evacuees) in (Kecamatan) Guntur are also asking to return home,” explained Agus.
Demak Regency has also set an emergency response status since the incident on Friday (3/4/2026). Agus said the emergency response period will last for two weeks.
“The status is already emergency response, since the 3rd, valid for 14 days ahead until the 17th,” Agus concluded.
Separately, resident of RT 1 RW 5, Ismono, said that in Dusun Solondoko, dozens of houses were damaged. Some houses were even swept away completely.
“Severely damaged houses: 13, houses swept away: nine, lightly damaged houses: six,” explained Ismono.
