Wealth and Career of Prihati Pujowaskito, Prabowo's Pick for BPJS Kesehatan Chief with Military Background

Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has officially appointed dr. Prihati Pujowaskito as President Director of BPJS Kesehatan for the 2026–2031 period. The cardiac specialist and retired TNI general has been entrusted to lead the strategic institution responsible for managing health insurance for hundreds of millions of Indonesians.

The appointment is set out in Presidential Decree Number 17/P of 2026 concerning the dismissal and appointment of the Supervisory Board and Board of Directors of BPJS Kesehatan. Prihati assumed the position effective 19 February 2026.

The appointment has drawn attention as Prihati is not merely a medical figure but also possesses a lengthy track record in the military and state hospital management. It is this combination of clinical, structural, and health leadership experience that has brought her to the helm of BPJS Kesehatan.

Career from Military Doctor to BPJS Chief

Prihati Pujowaskito was born in Solo on 29 March 1967. She completed her medical degree at Universitas Sebelas Maret before specialising in cardiology and vascular medicine at Universitas Airlangga.

Her career began through the TNI career officer track in the early 1990s. She served as a doctor with the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) before embarking on a long career in military hospitals.

Prihati previously headed the Cardiology Department at Dustira Military Hospital in Cimahi and at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD). Her managerial career advanced when she was appointed Director of Medical Support at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto from 2021 to 2023.

In academia, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Defence University (Universitas Pertahanan) from 2023 to 2025 and has been active as a lecturer in cardiology.
