Weakening Rupiah: Some Banks Set Dollar Exchange Rate at Rp 17,800

The exchange rate of the Rupiah against the US Dollar (US)deepenedfurtherintoday′strading, Monday(18/05/2026).AccordingtoRefinitivdata, at10 : 20WIB, theRupiahweakenedby1.15. This pressure was more significant compared to this morning’s opening, when the Rupiah opened 0.97% weaker at Rp17,630/US$.

The current position of the Rupiah has also drifted further from the closing position of the last trading day of the previous week, Wednesday (13/05/2026), before the long holiday. At that time, the Rupiah closed up 0.17% at the level of Rp17,460/US$.

Pressure on the Rupiah is in line with the continued strength of the US Dollar in the global market. The US Dollar Index (DXY) at the same time was observed to strengthen by 0.07% to the level of 99.353.

Citing exchange rate data from official company websites, MUFG Bank Jakarta Branch sold US$1 at a price of Rp17,830 and offered to buy US Dollars at a price of Rp17,230, with a spread margin of Rp600.

Meanwhile, several other foreign banks also set relatively high dollar prices. The British foreign bank, HSBC Indonesia, sold dollars at a price of Rp17,870 and bought at Rp17,420, with a spread margin of Rp450. Bank DBS sold dollars at a price of Rp17,714 and bought at Rp17,358, or a spread margin of Rp356. UOB was known to sell dollars at a price of Rp17,830 and buy at Rp17,284, with a spread margin of Rp546.

Furthermore, OCBC sold at Rp17,769 and bought at Rp17,491, with a spread margin of Rp278. JTrust sold at Rp17,720 and bought at Rp17,605, with a spread margin of Rp115.

In contrast, State-Owned Banks (BUMN) offered selling prices that were more competitive than most foreign banks. BRI was known to sell dollars at a price of Rp17,678 and buy at Rp17,651, with a spread margin of Rp27. BNI was known to sell at Rp17,675 and buy at Rp17,645, with a spread margin of Rp30. Bank Mandiri sold at Rp17,675 and bought at Rp17,655, with a spread margin of Rp20.
