WCPP 2026 in Bali Becomes Platform for Global Corrections System Collaboration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The hosting of the 7th World Congress on Probation (WCPP) related to trials and parole in 2026 in Bali will become a space to strengthen the global corrections system that is adaptive, humane, and recovery-based.
“The congress theme reflects the paradigm shift in sentencing that no longer focuses solely on imprisonment, but also on data-based and recovery approaches,” said Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto in his statement at the opening of WCPP 2026 in Bali on Tuesday.
The 7th WCPP, attended by 400 delegates from 44 countries, carries the theme “Getting Smart on Justice: Healing Hearts and Safer Societies”.
According to Agus, this forum, besides being a space for global collaboration in promoting a stronger, more adaptive, humane, and recovery-based corrections system, also serves as a strategic forum for global corrections stakeholders to exchange experiences.
“This congress also becomes a forum to formulate more effective coaching models, as well as to compile recommendations as a global practice reference, especially in the development of alternative punishments and parole,” he said.
“This approach is expected to create a safer society through strengthening the role of guidance and supervision by the Corrections Office,” said Agus.
It was also conveyed that through this forum, Indonesia not only acts as the host, but also as part of the active global community in driving the transformation of the corrections system towards a more inclusive, collaborative, and recovery-oriented approach.
The World Congress on Probation in Bali was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who was invited as the keynote speaker.
In his presentation, Yusril stated that there is no single corrections system model that can be applied universally.
He emphasised that modern justice systems must balance law enforcement, victim protection, public safety, and opportunities for offender reintegration.
“In that context, strengthening community guidance becomes an important part of reforming a more just and sustainable criminal justice system,” said Yusril.
Meanwhile, the hosting of WCPP 2026 in Bali also features works by inmates as part of the self-reliance coaching programme.
The displayed products have attracted attention from the delegates and are expected to open up international promotion opportunities.
