The government is preparing the World Conference on Creative Economy 2026 (WCCE 2026) as a platform to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global creative industry while attracting international investment to the creative economy sector. The forum, scheduled for 21-23 October 2026 at the Jakarta International Expo, is targeted to involve around 80 countries.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, stated that WCCE is not merely an international discussion forum. This event also serves as a platform for formulating international agendas.

“The focus is to ensure the creative economy is included in global priorities with measurable outputs,” he said in an official statement on Thursday (7/5/2026).

The government is also preparing the Jakarta Vision for Creative Economy document as a foundation to strengthen creative economy policies at the global level. This document is targeted to form the basis for proposing further resolutions at the UN General Assembly.

“The Jakarta Vision document will be formulated together with participating countries and aimed at becoming the next resolution at the UN, so that the creative economy has a stronger global policy foundation,” said the Minister. This step also strengthens Indonesia’s creative economy diplomacy amid global digital economy competition.

For information, the performance of the national creative economy sector becomes Indonesia’s main capital in promoting this agenda. In 2024, the creative economy contribution was recorded at Rp 1,611.15 trillion, equivalent to 7.28% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Meanwhile, in 2025, this sector recorded exports of US$31.94 billion and investments of Rp 183.01 trillion. The creative industry also absorbs around 27.4 million workers in various sub-sectors.

On the other hand, WCCE 2026 will also feature a business matching scheme and cross-country bilateral meetings to accelerate the realisation of business collaborations. Acting Deputy for Strategic Development of Creative Economy, Dian Permanasari, said the forum opens up space for direct implementation of collaborations between government and business actors.

“Through the scheme of meetings between governments and business actors, WCCE opens up space for implementable collaborations that can be followed up directly,” she stated.

The government hopes this forum will strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem while expanding global market access for Indonesian creative industry players.
