Beijing, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - At MWC Barcelona 2026, the World Broadband Association (WBBA), together with global industry partners, released the official white paper “Net5.5G Readiness Assessment and Certification” during the Broadband Development Congress (BDC). The publication provides a framework of standards for the evolution of intelligent networks for operators and enterprises worldwide. On the same occasion, Huawei also launched the latest Net5.5G IP bearer network solution to accelerate industry development toward a smarter world.

WBBA introduced the Net5.5G readiness assessment and certification standards as the first globally integrated assessment framework for smart networks.

The WBBA report introduces the IP Network Development Index, the world’s first assessment and rating framework covering campus networks, IP bearer networks, and data centre networks. The framework serves as a reference standard and clear direction for operators and businesses in evaluating network development, while also promoting commercial deployment and the evolution of intelligent networks globally.

Meanwhile, the Net5.5G Pioneer Programme led by WBBA continues to progress. To date, the global pioneer matrix comprises 32 visionary pioneers, 6 regional pioneers, and 44 business pioneers.

Huawei launched the latest Net5.5G IP bearer network solution that meets the standards.

Steven Zhao, Vice President, Data Communication Product Line, Huawei, said, “To welcome the All Intelligence era, WBBA is urging deeper integration between networks and AI based on Net5.5G. Huawei has also updated the IP bearer network in three main aspects: security resilience, multi‑dimensional awareness, and network autonomy. These efforts will help operators build the intelligent IP bearer network foundation of Net5.5G to maintain service quality, accelerate monetisation, improve efficiency, and at the same time open a new chapter of smart connectivity.”

Global Practice: Net5.5G begins to deliver real business value

A number of operators and leading industry players also presented the latest practices on Net5.5G implementation. In France, Orange Group is developing its network into a platform capable of supporting AI by leveraging high‑bandwidth, intelligent, flexible, efficient, secure, and reliable transport and access networks. In Macau (China), CTM is building a smart bearer network using Net5.5G AI WAN. Backed by AI‑based perceptive capabilities for training and inference, CTM identifies encrypted video traffic and runs more targeted marketing programs, delivering guaranteed application performance. This also reduces churn and increases Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). On the other hand, IGA in Türkiye is using AI‑based decision making to shorten the wait time in scheduling three runways by up to 20%. Supported by a reliable network capacity to guarantee baggage handling processes visually and in real time, the airport uses digital intelligence to enhance flight safety and deliver a better network experience for passengers. IGA is now a key example in the development of efficient, environmentally friendly, and resilient global airports.

Looking ahead, WBBA invites industry associations worldwide to strengthen collaboration and drive innovation in technology standards, industry policy, and commercial practices to accelerate the evolution toward Net5.5G.
