MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The World Bank has provided about Rp
3.3 billion in aid in 2003 to construct three junior high schools
in East Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
The head of the regency's education office, Sanusi, said in
Selong, East Lombok, on Thursday the new schools were being built
in the districts of Peringgasela, Jerowaru and Terara.
Construction is scheduled to be completed the end of this
year, he said.
The schools have already begun enrolling students, eager to
book a place in a regency that has very few junior high schools
to accommodate the rising number of elementary school graduates.
"At present, there are only 47 secondary schools in East
Lombok, and half of their students have to attend classes in the
afternoon," Sanusi said.
He also said 90 percent of all secondary school students in
the regency passed their final exams. --Antara
