KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The World Bank has provided Rp 250 billion (US$ 109.4 million) for the campaign to save coral reefs in several provinces, Antara reported.
The head of the environmental bureau of the provincial government, Djamaluddin Safaa, said the aid, to be donated over a five-year period, will be used mainly for campaigns to increase public awareness on the need to protect coral reefs.
It will also be used to finance training on various relevant issues, including marine life research.
Safaa said the province has also received donations for similar purposes from the Australian and Dutch governments.
The coral reefs here, especially in the waters of the Tukang Besi Islands, are considered to be home to some of the world's most beautiful marine life, Safaa said. (swe)
