Ways to prevent bank robberies

Ways to prevent bank robberies

From Media Indonesia

Bank robberies have increased in the last few months and are
showing a growing tendency to be violent, in some cases even with
fatal outcomes. Pleas made by the security sector, such as
police, that bank customers should make use of the free guard
service when transferring considerable amounts of money, received
a lukewarm welcome from clients.

Customers gave various reasons for not using this police
facility.

To minimize the number of bank robberies and hold-ups given
bank customers' reluctance to use police guards, I would like to
suggest that banks should start applying sophisticated
information and communication technology as follows:

1. Open an "on line system" between cities and the Jabotabek
region.

2. Unlimited transfers from one bank account to another via ATM
(automatic teller machines), or a similar machine. This system
is doing well and proves to be satisfactory in settling
telephone, handphone and credit card bills.

3. Create an "on line" mutual ATM system for all ATM bank cards.

4. Increase the number of ATMs in shopping malls, offices or
residential areas.

I am certain that the banking world can find a safer way of
funds transfer under the new communications system. I hope that
these measures will reduce crime in bank transfers and provide
bank customers with more convenience and a greater sense of
security.
